Privacy

I can’t leak what I never had.

Most apps say they take security seriously. Seriously. So I went further and don’t take any of your data at all — no server, no account, nothing collected. There is no pile of anybody’s tasks sitting somewhere waiting to be stolen, sold or subpoenaed. That is the whole policy — the rest of this page is the detail behind it.

In effect 21 August 2026  ·  nothing collected to date

None of that is a promise. It is the cornerstone of Thingist.

Your data is yours. Period.

I don’t want anybody holding my data, so why would I hold yours? Simple — I can’t. Not now, not ever, not by accident.

Where your tasks actually live

On the device you typed them into. That’s the default, and for a single device it’s the whole story.

In your own private iCloud database, if you turn iCloud on. Your tasks sync between your iPhone, iPad and Mac through your Apple Account. That database belongs to you. I can’t read it, can’t copy it, and have no way to ask Apple for it.

Nowhere else. There is no third destination.

Taking your data out, or deleting it

Export any time. Thingist exports to CSV and to JSON. Both are plain files you can open and keep. There’s no charge and nothing to ask permission for.

Deleting. Deleting a task moves it to Trash, which holds on to it for thirty days by default — or 15, 60 or 90, whichever you set. Deleting the app removes its data from that device. If you use iCloud, removing Thingist’s data from iCloud is done in your Apple Account settings, where you control it directly.

The parts Apple handles

Buying the app. Thingist is sold through the App Store. Apple takes the payment. I never see your card, your address or your Apple Account.

System features. iCloud sync, Siri, Spotlight, widgets and the share sheet are Apple’s, and using them means Apple’s own privacy policy applies to that part. Thingist does not add anything of its own on top, and receives nothing back.

Who to ask

Questions about privacy go to support@thingist.app. I read it myself, and I answer it myself.
