No company to change its mind.
You are considering paying for software from a name you have never heard of. That deserves a straight answer about who is behind it, and what happens if they stop.
One person · one payment · no server
Most software doesn’t fail you by disappearing. It fails you by carrying on and turning into something else.
There is nothing here to turn into.
No investor who needs it to grow. No quarter to hit. No server to switch off, and no account to revoke.
Who built it
I’m Kyle. I have a day job, two small businesses of my own, and a large family. Between them there is always something sitting with somebody else — a quote, a part, a signature — and no list I could find kept track of any of it. So I wrote one.
That’s the whole company. There is no team, and no plan anywhere that needs you to keep paying.
One person, and why that helps
One person probably sounds like a risk. I understand that. There is nobody covering for me, and no office to call.
Here is the other side of it. There are no shareholders. No investors, no boss, and no accountant asking what this is costing in time or money. Nothing gets added to raise a price, and nothing gets cut because it did not pay for itself this quarter. Nobody has to be convinced of anything.
This is the app I needed and could not buy, and I will keep it running for as long as it is possible for me to. That decision is mine, and there is nobody who can overrule it.
What happens if I stop
The honest answer, because you’re about to pay for something. If I stopped working on Thingist tomorrow, the app on your phone would keep doing exactly what it does today. There is no server to go dark and no license check to fail.
Your tasks are already on your device and in your own iCloud. You can export the lot to CSV or JSON at any point, without asking anyone.
That’s not a promise about my intentions. It’s a description of how it was built, and it would be true whatever I did next.
Why it costs money once
You are paying for the software, and for the work that went into building it. Both are finite things. So they have a price, and you pay it once.
Then you own it. Not licensed to you. Not rented. Not yours for as long as a card stays on file. Almost nothing else you buy now works that way, and nobody can take this one back — not me, and not Apple.
$24.95, once, for iPhone, iPad and Mac. No tiers, nothing held back for an upgrade, and everything added later is included.
Where to find us
Anything to do with the app goes to support@thingist.app, and I read it myself. If you want me rather than the app, that is kyle@thingist.app.
Thingist is made by Dietrich Enterprises LLC.
